Kris Boyd warns Rangers boss Russell Martin what to expect next week with ‘Celtic coming to Ibrox’

Celtic fans won’t be thinking about the Glasgow Derby at Rangers just yet.

Right now, Celtic head to Kairat Almaty for the second-leg of their Champions League play-off qualifier this week.

Brendan Rodgers will be hoping to create history with Celtic’s first-ever win in Kazakhstan and reach the lucrative league phase of UEFA’s top competition.

Rangers on the other hand, are still smarting after dropping more points against St Mirren to hand Celtic a huge advantage at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

And with a trip to Club Brugge this week, Kris Boyd has warned Russell Martin what will await him when Celtic come to Ibrox on Sunday should he not get a result in Belgium.

Kris Boyd predicts a ‘toxic’ Ibrox when Celtic come to Rangers

Kris Boyd was fuming as Rangers’ draw with St Mirren put Celtic into a commanding lead in the league.

With a tough run of fixtures ahead, Boyd reckons the Hoops fans could be heading to a ‘toxic’ Ibrox next week if Rangers don’t avoid defeat at Brugge.

Boyd said on Sky Sports, “Yeah, the frustration is getting more and more. You can tell in the second half there’s a little bit of fight, a little bit of energy in the team.

“But, I mean, it’s not good enough for the Rangers team. I mean, we spoke at the top of the show in terms of Russell Martin being under pressure.

“This is only going to intensify. I mean, that’s three games without a victory for Rangers. Three draws, you’ve got Celtic coming to Ibrox next week as well.

“And if Rangers don’t get a positive result on Wednesday night, Ibrox is going to be toxic. Fans have had enough.”

Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic warning to Kairat Almaty

Looking ahead to the Champions League play-off, Brendan Rodgers believes his team will have a much different attitude than the one that struggled to break down Kairat last Wednesday.

Speaking after Celtic beat Livingston on Saturday, Rodgers told The Irish Times, “I’ve had games, like I said before, that went for us. And some that haven’t.

“But it’s winner takes all now. And everything is there for us to do it. They’re a good side, well-organised, and it’s always tough in European football to go away.

“But we know we need the result. And we’re going to give absolutely everything to get the result and be at the top table of European football.”
