Kris Boyd’s Celtic attack was petty and totally misses the point

We all know that Kris Boyd is never usually on target when he fires at the Hoops, but his latest Celtic attack is one of pure bitterness.

In a week where Rangers have actually impressed their supporters with some decent wins, you would’ve thought Boyd would’ve been focusing on his old club this weekend. After all, he certainly likes a wee gloat whenever he can.

But, instead, he couldn’t help but have a swipe at Celtic. Our early Champions League exit was an embarrassment for the club. So does Boyd then have a go at the performance?

Nah, that would be too sensible. Instead, he had a pop at the supporters. His piece in the Scottish Sun stated that Celtic fans are too “arrogant, spoiled, and big-headed” to see our level in Europe. He had a go at the fans who booed Celtic off the pitch.

Yes, the same Celtic players who threw away THREE leads against an average Romanian outfit. The same Celtic players who conceded four goals in a Champions League qualifier for the first time at Celtic Park. Supporters who paid over £30 to see their team in action on Tuesday night, I might add. They had every right to vent their frustrations.

Kris Boyd’s Celtic attack is an unfair dig at supporters

Boyd goes on to say that those who booed are deluding themselves into thinking we belong in the Champions League. Eh, what? The fans were booing at throwing away a lead that should’ve been easily manageable. It had nothing to do with “belonging” in the Champions League.

Perhaps Boyd’s best comment is on our 7-0 demolition of St Johnstone during flag day. He’s decided to use the “they wurny ready” excuse. Boyd claimed that Tommy Wright’s side genuinely weren’t ready for the game. That comment doesn’t even merit further analysis.

Not one Celtic fan has ever stated that we have a “god-given right”, as Boyd says, to be in the Champions League. We all know we have to earn our place. But when we see opposition with a smaller budget and lesser quality players in front of us, we should expect Celtic to do the business.

Boyd’s piece is just full of statements and ideas plucked from thin air. He’s clearly either at the wind-up or simply just getting a little too excited at our CL exit.

It’s an absolutely incredible ramble, with bitterness and venom seeping all the way through it. Once again, he’s showing the effects of a man who continues to be haunted by Celtic’s domination.

And once again, after having another pop at Celtic, he’s totally missed the target. But hey ho, he’ll be well used to that by now.
