Kris Commons thinks Ange signing had his best game in a Celtic shirt yesterday

Kris Commons has hailed the progress of Carl Starfelt in a Celtic shirt and thinks that he had his best game yesterday since signing for the club.

Starfelt arrived last summer from Rubin Kazan and has at times drawn criticism from supporters. Personally, I actually think he’s been more consistent than many others realise – he’s crucial to how this Ange Postecoglou team plays.

Still, question marks have persisted. Yesterday, there were none.

Carl Starfelt impresses for Celtic vs Livingston

Writing in his Scottish Daily Mail column [07/03 print edition, Verdict supplement page 4], Commons said: “Celtic handled Livingston extremely well.

“Carl Starfelt had his best game in a Celtic jersey — and not before time. He’s not really hit the ground running and, when that happens, it can be hard to change people’s perceptions of you. He now looks to have found his feet.

“He’s certainly making far better decisions with and without the ball. He’s formed a good partnership with Cameron Carter-Vickers and, frankly, I find it hard to see how Christopher Jullien now gets back in.

“The defensive unit was key to an extremely tricky game being ticked off yesterday.”

Sincerely, I think Commons may have been sleeping on Starfelt for a bit. The Swedish defender has been excellent for a while. But, what I would say is it’s nice for him to be getting praise in the media rather than pelters.

Starfelt has had rough reviews from pundits and former players since arriving in Glasgow. BBC Sportsound in particular seems to have had it in for him for a number of months now.

It’s nice to see his performances given a bit of positive limelight for once rather than negative glare.

I think it’s clear Postecoglou is going to stick with this defensive partnership between now and the end of the season so let’s hope both Starfelt and Carter-Vickers can keep their performance levels high.
