Former Celtic favourite Kris Commons has heavily praised goalkeeper Fraser Forster in his Scottish Daily Mail column this week (28/10 print edition, The Verdict supplement page 20).
Forster produced a monstrous performance at home to Lazio last Thursday night.
His save just moments before the final whistle was undoubtedly world class and ensured we picked up all three points.
For Commons, it was the kind of performance that recalled his best days for the Hoops in Europe, when he earned accolades for displays against Barcelona and others.
He also thinks the player is in record-breaking form and could prove to be the Hoops’ best signing of the season.
As quoted by The Scottish Daily Mail (28/10 print edition, The Verdict supplement page 20), he said: “The form he’s in reminds me of when he broke the clean-sheet record in 2014, going 1,215 minutes without losing a goal until Jonny Hayes rifled one into the top corner at Pittodrie.
“That’s what it takes to beat Forster when he’s at his best, something truly special and truly unsaveable.
“Getting him back on loan might just prove to be the shrewdest piece of business Celtic did all summer.”
Also tipping him to become England’s number one goalkeeper, ahead of Jordan Pickford, it’s clear that Commons has great admiration for the on-loan star.

Can Celtic possibly keep him?
The player has recently gone on the record that he’d “never say no” to a permanent Celtic switch (The Scottish Sun), so there’ll be hope from supporters he can be signed beyond his season-long loan deal.
Whether the financial details make sense for either Southampton or Celtic is another matter. It’s always a tricky business making moves for players earning high wages at English Premier League clubs.
Given his form, Saints might even determine he deserves another shot in the first-team at St Mary’s.
The signs are good he can become an official Celtic player once again though. He seems happy, he’s in great form and now into his 30s must know he needs to settle down at a club for the latter part of his career.
