Kristoffer Ajer has slammed the recent spate of thuggish fans causing a blight on the national game.

The young Norwegian believes the recent scenes are ruining the country’s reputation across the world.

Furthermore, Ajer watched on as a Hibs fan threw a glass bottle at his team mate Scott Sinclair last weekend.

Speaking to The Daily Record, Ajer said he believes most of the Scottish fans are ‘the best in the world.’

However Ajer believes: “A few fans are destroying the whole picture you get from the stands.

“Because of these coins and even a bottle being thrown at the players.

“If this bottle hits Sinclair it could have caused a severe injury. He was lucky not to be hit.”

The Norwegian defender is worried that a ‘line has been crossed’ far too many times this season.

Although Sinclair is not the only target of thuggish fans this season, it was a recent example of a bottle being flung from the stands.

However, there have been too many recent incidents involving thuggish fans.

Celtic fans pelted Kris Boyd with coins at the recent victory at Rugby Park. Rangers fans abused Kilmarnock boss Steve Clarke with sectarian insults.

However, it’s not just big two with a problem. Hibs, Aberdeen and Hearts have all had trouble makers at recent games.

A nationwide problem

This is not an issue purely situated in Glasgow and her two biggest clubs. Scotland as a whole has an issue with thuggish fans at the moment.

It would be unfair to dismiss the whole national game on an account of thuggish fans. The recent spate of incidents is worrying, however.

Should it continue, bright young prospects like Ajer may be put off coming to Scotland.

As a result, our game would end up in the gutter.
