Celtic’s centre-back partnership of Kristoffer Ajer and Christopher Jullien has been together for less than six months. However, in that time the duo have helped the Hoops win the Betfred Cup, top their Europa League qualifying group and stay top of the Premiership.

Now Ajer has paid tribute to Jullien, claiming that he has learned a lot from playing with the Frenchman in the short time he has been at the club.

“I think he’s blended into the group really well” Ajer said, in a video interview with SkySports.

“It’s been great to learn a lot from him, I think he’s had a great start for his Celtic career.”

It is good to learn that Ajer enjoys playing with Jullien, that is ideal in a defensive partnership. Perhaps the most interesting takeaway from Ajer’s comments is that he is learning from Jullien, even though he has been at Celtic far longer than Jullien has.

The reason for that will be that Jullien has more experience playing as a defender than Ajer has. It should be remembered that Ajer used to be a midfielder, before he was converted into a centre-back.

Game can only improve by learning from teammate

That Ajer is still willing to learn from Jullien can only be a good thing. It shows that he isn’t afraid to learn even though he has been a first-team regular for a few seasons. That can only improve his game.

So far, the Ajer and Jullien partnership has been a successful one for the Hoops. There might have been a few blips here and there. However, for the most part, the duo have worked very well together.

Hopefully the pair can continue in their centre-back for a few years to come. They could provide a solid foundation for the Hoops to work on. For the moment though, the pair’s immediate focus will be helping Celtic win nine in a row.
