Kristoffer Ajer has singled Celtic star Greg Taylor out for praise ahead of this Sunday’s Scottish League Cup final.

The Norwegian powerhouse, speaking on the Celtic View podcast, said his former teammate is “at the top level”.

Ajer also joked about how he tried to annoy Taylor in Celtic training to bring out the “madman” in him.

Taylor has been one of the main success stories under Ange Postecoglou at Celtic. The 25-year-old previously split opinion among the Hoops faithful.

Now, the praise heading Taylor’s way is pretty much unanimous. The left-back is absolutely crucial to Ange’s style of play and is consistently one of the Bhoys’ best players.

Taylor and Ajer spent two seasons together at Parkhead and were also teammates at Kilmarnock in 2017. The former Celtic defender is delighted with how Taylor is faring at present.

“He’s playing the best football I’ve ever seen him play,” said Ajer. “I’m really happy for him. Greg’s an amazing person.”

“He had some moments when he went like a madman in training. I used to try and annoy him in training so I could see his dark eyes which I loved.

“I can’t say enough good stuff about him. To see him doing well … he fits perfectly into Ange’s way of playing football. I was only there for three weeks under Ange but I saw what a good manager he was and how successful he’d make Celtic. To play as an almost inverted full-back role where he gets the ball in midfield .. he’s at the top level.”

More of the same please

Taylor and Angeball are a match made in heaven, with inverted full-backs key to the big man’s tactics.

Since Ange took the reins at Parkhead, Taylor has become almost unstoppable – especially in domestic football.

Last time out, he delivered a masterclass against Aberdeen. Now, as cup final day approaches, let’s hope Taylor can keep up the good work and help power the Bhoys to more glory.
