Celtic stars past and present have congregated on the Instagram page of Anthony Ralston, following another excellent display for the Bhoys.

Last night, Ralston was flocked by current Celts like Joe Hart, Luca Connell and Stephen Welsh on his social media. Former teammates, including Jeremie Frimpong and Kristoffer Ajer, at Bayer Leverkusen and Brentford respectively, joined in.

It’s been an excellent month for Ralston. Doubted once again in pre-season, with everyone expecting the Bhoys to sign a right-back quicker, he’s been magnificent. Still only 22, the Academy graduate has shone in an inverted full-back role under Ange Postecoglou.

Despite his tender age, Ralston has been on the periphery at Celtic for some time. Loan spells at St Johnstone and Dundee United didn’t quite work out. It was therefore surprising when Celtic offered the right-back a new deal in the summer [Sun].

Barely given time to impress, Ralston’s highlight in the Hoops thus far had been goading Neymar in the Champions League. Now, though, he looks mature, composed and incredibly hard-working; all traits enjoyed by the new Bhoys boss.

Celtic Academy graduate Ralston applauded on Instagram

Ralston posted on his Instagram last night:

And, as you’ll see here, it took no time for Celts past and present to praise the right-back.

Not only that, there were hundreds of comments from supporters hoping for even more from the Academy graduate.

While Josip Juranovic looks to be on his way, that doesn’t necessarily mean Ralston will be shelved for the foreseeable. Postecoglou has emphasised the need for squad depth, and so it’s more than likely that the Croatian international and Ralston will both have plenty of game-time.

Of all the surprising turns of this brand new season, Anthony Ralston bursting into form probably ranks highest. However, the work he’s doing in training, and his tactical understanding of Postecoglou’s game mean that one of our biggest fears – the right-back slot – has become a strength in just a matter of weeks.

Long may it continue, and maybe Ralston can get more acclaim on Instagram, as well as from the stands.
