Kristoffer Ajer reaffirms his happiness at Celtic

Kristoffer Ajer’s Celtic career doesn’t look like ending anytime soon after his latest comments.

The big centre-back has struggled to make an impact this season. He’s going through a poor run of form, but is still Neil Lennon’s first-choice partner for Christopher Jullien. We all know, in time, Ajer will get back to his usual self.

It’s also not that long ago since the likes of Leicester City were linked with a move for him either (Scottish Sun). It’s clear that he’s highly-rated elsewhere.

Team-mate Mohamed Elyounoussi claimed to Norwegian outlet TV2 that Ajer is more than good enough for the Premier League. But in the same joint interview with the duo, Ajer was quick to reaffirm his commitment to the Hoops.

“I have three years left of my contract, and I love living in Glasgow. I play for one of the world’s biggest clubs, and there’s not much that can beat going out at Celtic Park.”

Here’s what Elyounoussi had to say on Ajer:

“We’ll see how long we keep Kristoffer. He’s been here a couple of years and done extremely well. I expect to see him in a bigger club in a bigger league. From what I have seen on him in the past and now on a daily basis and in combat, he is more than good enough for the Premier League.”

Please stop trying to sell him Mo!

It would be much appreciated if Elyounoussi would try to avoid selling one of our best centre-backs! But in truth, you would be mad not to rate Ajer’s potential as highly as Elyounoussi does.

It’s easy to forget considering he’s been here for several years, but Ajer is only 21. That seems crazy considering he has played just under 100 games for Celtic. That also came after 61 matches for Start in Norway before he arrived at Parkhead in 2016 as a 17-year-old.

Ajer is likely to make that move one day. We’re not blind to the Premier League riches, and we can’t expect Ajer to consistently turn the glitz and glamour of England down for us.

But he’s showing the exact level of respect to the club that we want. He isn’t entertaining leaving, and likely wouldn’t do so until the club accepted an offer for him. For now, there’s nothing to even consider, and we have to hope it stays that way in January.

It’s important for Ajer that he just gets himself out of this mini-slump he’s on. Key mistakes made by the Norwegian have proved costly over the last several matches.

Getting back on form should and will be his main goal. And it’s clear that any idea of departing the club isn’t crossing his mind anytime soon.
