Kundai Benyu confirms early Celtic return

Forgotten Celtic midfielder Kundai Benyu is set to return to the club a whole three months early – after ending his stint at Swedish side Helsingborgs.

The former Aldershot man – who joined the Bhoys in 2017 – had enjoyed a fruitful start to life in Scandinavia. The 21-year-old had impressed in his first few outings of a season-long loan but he’s since gone off the boil – missing the last ten matchday squads.

His early return to Scotland was confirmed on Tuesday with Benyu taking to his favourite social media platform Instagram to inform supporters.

He wrote: “Thank you for everything to everyone at HIF. Unfortunately the last couple of months of my loan didn’t work out as I hoped.

“Maybe under different circumstances they would have. Good luck in the future.”

What now for Benyu at Celtic?

The flamboyant midfielder is contracted in Glasgow until May 2021 meaning that he still has around 18 months of his contract to run. However, he doesn’t look to have much of a hope at the club given his standing in the game and the amount of competition in his area of the pitch.

Benyu seemed to play as a left-sided midfielder in his fleeting appearances under Brendan Rodgers. Unfortunately for him that is an area where we are extremely well covered in at present. The likes of Daniel Arzani and Lewis Morgan can’t get a sniff at present so you doubt Benyu would have any more success.

The more likely option is a move away, potentially on loan, in January. Benyu showed flashes of quality when given the chance at Celtic so you wouldn’t be totally surprised to see him find a number of suitors.

He’ll be playing football somewhere soon enough. It’s just not very likely to be Celtic Park.
