Hyeokkyu Kwon is already proving to be popular with Celtic supporters after a confident first interview following the signing a five-year deal at the club.

Kwon is one of two player signings announcements today, with compatriot Hyunjun Yan also joining the Bhoys and signing a five-year contract.

As always, the club quickly introduced them to the fans via the in-house media team, getting their instant reaction to being unveiled as Celtic players.

Kwon spoke in impressive English for part of the interview and couldn’t keep the smile off of his face, telling Gerry McCulloch: “I’m very happy to join this club. It is a very big honour for me. Now I’m a Celtic player, I’m ready to fight, let’s fight together in Paradise! Yes! My style is a fighter, my position is a defensive midfielder. I like to cut open the opposition’s defence and pass in front.

“I’m well aware that there are a lot of good Celtic players and very offensive team players. I’m pretty sure I can be a great support to these offensive attackers because I can also attack and be offensive myself. I expect to see a lot of synergy and teamwork.

“[Having Oh and Yang] is much better than being alone as a Korean, especially with communication. It’s easier for me to communicate with players off and on the pitch. It will definitely help me settle at Celtic.

“I am well aware that Celtic is one of the biggest clubs and since I was a youth player I always watched the Celtic matches of Ki Sung-Yueng and Cha Du-Ri. It is one of my dreams to become a part of this club. I’m very much looking forward to playing here.”

If his first interview is anything to go by he might become quite a character here. He certainly isn’t shy and seemed to relish being in front of the camera.

Now the hard stuff begins. He’ll join in Celtic training this week when the squad return from Japan and look to immediately try and get some pre-season match minutes under his belt against Wolves or Athletic Bilbao.

Let’s hope he is a success in the long term!
