Kyogo ‘breaks Rennes boss trust’ as brutal Japan media say Celtic hero’s situation going from bad to worse

Kyogo left Celtic in January as he looked for a fresh challenge at 30-years-old.

The Japanese striker hoped to play for his country in coming competitions and felt moving from Glasgow to Ligue 1 might boost his chances of being picked by manager Hajime Moriyasu.

Sadly for the attacker, things have not panned out too well for him since he made his move with just 83 minutes of football in two outings with Rennes.

New manager Habib Beye seemingly is not a fan of the former Hoops man and he has been wasting his talents on the bench. But French football commentator for DAZN Japan, Atsushi Nakayama, feels a familiar shoulder injury has played its part in Kyogo’s failures at Rennes so far.

Kyogo ‘broke’ Rennes boss Habib Beye’s trust after Celtic move

The journalist believes Kyogo “broke Beye’s trust” with an unimpressive start and the injury added to that. “Furuhashi started in the first match against Strasbourg, but failed to make an impact,” Nakayama said.

“He made an even worse impression in their next match against Lille. He came on in the second half and he suffered a dislocation of his left shoulder in the final minutes. Furuhashi alone was not the cause of the loss, but he did not impress the new coach. His trust was broken.

“It will be tough for the 30-year-old Furuhashi to get many playing opportunities from now until the end of this season.”

Japanese media followed suit with their own startling assessment of the Celtic legend’s chances of success at Rennes.

Tabloid Nikkan Gendai in his home country have suggested that the player is in “big trouble” having barely kicked a ball in anger since his move was green-lit.

Japanese media say Kyogo could be finished at Rennes already

And even after Kyogo said he was happy at Rennes, his future may not be in France after all.

“Kyogo, who has experience playing for the Japanese national team, is in big trouble after being recruited by Rennes in the French first division on January 27th. After playing in two games since his transfer, he has not played in any games since,” the report reads.

“He was not called up for the match against bottom-placed Montpellier on the 2nd, even though the score was 4-0, and he was benched in three of the five games since joining the team, so he is suddenly considered ‘out of the team’.

“When he joined the team, they were ranked 16th out of 18 teams, which was a low ranking and within the second division relegation playoff zone. Immediately after joining, coach Sampaio was fired and the team moved to a new coaching system with former Senegal national team player Beye.

“The core of the team’s current offensive line is 23-year-old forward Karimendo, the team’s top scorer, the prolific No. 10 midfielder Brass, and Jordanian ace forward Altamari, who transferred domestically from first division club Montpellier on February 3rd.

“The situation has improved. The team has risen back to 11th place and escaped the danger zone of relegation to the second division.

“For such Furuhashi, a return to Moriyasu Japan was originally considered hopeless. Why on earth? What is the surprising reason why Furuhashi is out of Moriyasu’s plans no matter how hard he tries? What on earth is going on?”
