Kyogo’s classy response to international exclusion should excite the Celtic fans

The international break is one that is generally met with a kind of insipid response from many football fans.

For Celtic supporters, especially in the last two seasons, we look upon this period of the calendar with trepidation because we know that injuries to our key players could have a huge impact on the squad.

In the main, we would prefer if they were left behind but that in itself is a double-edged sword as for many professional footballers, playing at the international level is regarded as the pinnacle of their career. It can also aid their development as players.

In this break, many of Celtic’s stars were left behind as their fellow countrymen either took part in Euro qualifiers or international friendlies.

There were two surprise exclusions from the Japan national squad in Reo Hatate and Kyogo Furuhashi and whilst the reasons for them being left in Glasgow have been well scrutinised, you do have to wonder what effect those reasons will have on their mindset.

Kyogo is determined to turn it into a positive. The Japanese striker vowed to do all he can on the pitch to force his way into Hajime Moriyasu’s plans and that can only be a good thing for the Hoops support.

As reported by the Daily Record, Kyogo addressed being left out of the Japan squad and he answered with class and humility, “I can’t help but talk about the past, so I look ahead and decide the goals that will help the team win.

“I think I am not good enough yet. Everyone can connect with just one ball. Football is great.”

With 26 goals already to his name this season, Kyogo’s form has been devastating. If he is looking to get noticed by Moriyasu by hitting the back of the net even more regularly than he is doing now, the Celtic fans are certainly in for a treat for the remainder of the season.

With nine games to go until the end of the league season and a Scottish Cup semi-final to come, I am certainly looking forward to seeing Kyogo proving Moriyasu wrong and showing he can become an even better player.
