Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi has established himself as a talisman at Parkhead and is adored by supporters for his expert finishing ability.

Last campaign, the Japan international notched some decisive strikes to help the Bhoys claim a domestic double, registering 19 goals and five assists from 50 appearances across all competitions [Transfermarkt].

Of course, Furuhashi did have to adapt to Brendan Rodgers’ more possession-orientated style of play throughout the season, which involves a slightly altered manner of cutting open defences as opposed to Ange Postecoglou’s tactical framework.

Nevertheless, he still made a sizeable contribution when it mattered for Celtic, with his consecutive Glasgow Derby goals against Rangers at Ibrox and then Parkhead earlier in the term proving to be crucial in the context of the Bhoys’ double-winning exploits.

Now, he has shared some of his thoughts on 2023/24 and outlined his vision for the new season, which is just around the corner.

Kyogo Furuhashi’s verdict on his 2023/24 Celtic season

Speaking to Nikkan Sports, Furuhashi admitted he would’ve liked to have scored more throughout the campaign; nevertheless, he is determined to hit the ground running in 2024/25.

He stated: “Personally, I was not able to score as many goals as I did last season. I am happy that we were able to send goalkeeper Joe Hart off in a good way in his retirement year.”

Later on, Furuhashi added: “I hope to make my presence felt wherever I am. I had some frustrating experiences (in 2023/24), so I hope to score more goals than that.”

It is intriguing to see the former Vissel Kobe man has opened up on some of his more ‘frustrating experiences’ in front of goal.

For some strikers, 19 goals in a campaign would be seen as a handy return; however, Furuhashi has set some incredibly high standards in three years at Celtic, so it isn’t surprising he is determined to keep improving.

Hopefully, he can enjoy a fruitful pre-season to set him up nicely for another season of claiming silverware at Parkhead.
