Read MoreKyogo Furuhashi to Southampton rumour rightly laughed off by Celtic fans
The Celtic supporters have rightly moved to dismiss the idea of Kyogo Furuhashi moving to Southampton anytime soon.
The surprising report was published yesterday by Italian outlet Calciomercato. They simply stated that the EPL club had set their sights on securing Kyogo. There was no information on whether they were weighing up a January or summer bid.
Furuhashi has started life off brilliantly in Glasgow with eight goals in 11 appearances [Transfermarkt]. It would hardly be surprising if his rip-roaring start had been noted by clubs in England and abroad. We all know how talented he is.
However, for a player who’s only been at the club for less than three months? Come on. Let’s not pretend this is actually going to go anywhere.
Of course that doesn’t mean that Southampton haven’t been looking at Furuhashi. Looking at things logically, they’ve had a history of successful transfer dealings with Celtic in the past. Why wouldn’t they take a look at the hottest new thing wowing Hoops supporters?
But the prospect of it actually turning into anything? That’s another matter. And one that shouldn’t be entertained to any degree whatsoever.
Kyogo Furuhashi will be going nowhere despite Southampton rumour
It’s not even just the fact that he’s been here for a couple of months. You also have to taken into consideration what selling him would do to the support.
Two big Celtic games this month won’t be televised
You can’t allow a player to be idolised as much as Kyogo is by the Celtic fans, and then just sell him on quickly. It would anger the fans to an incredible level.
Not to mention you’d be selling your chances of winning the title down the drain at the same time. There would be absolutely no positive for Celtic in doing any sort of deal for Kyogo fur at least 18 months to 2 years at the earliest.
Even now I feel as though I’ve entertained the idea more than I should’ve. It’s ludicrous to even suggest this is an option the club could take.
And it’s clear many supporters feel the same way. Here’s a look at some of their reaction to yesterday’s rumour:
Not even been here one season man so shameless
