Kyogo outlines his brilliant Celtic improvement masterplan

Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi has opened up on how he plans to work on his finishing after a frustrating UEFA Champions League group stage campaign.

The Japanese international has been a goal-scoring machine for the Hoops, producing in front of goal on 31 occasions across domestic and European action [Transfermarkt].

Last campaign, the forward finished as one of the club’s top goalscorers, despite missing large spells of the second half of the season.

And going into the 2022/23 season, the former Vissel Kobe man has continued his impressive form, scoring 11 goals in the Scottish Premiership and Premier Sports cup.

However, there was one competition Kyogo failed to score in this campaign after the Hoops’ involvement in the UEFA Champions League.

Despite having opportunities again Real Madrid, RB Leipzig and Shakhtar Donetsk, Celtic’s number eight just could grab that illustrious strike.

Of course, Kyogo wasn’t the only player to have his struggles in front of goal, with missed opportunities being the story of Celtic’s Champions League campaign.

Speaking in a recent interview, the striker opened up on his misfortunes and revealed how he plans to improve in training and off the pitch.

He said [The Athletic]: “Luck plays a role in scoring, but it’s also about a little more accuracy and precision. On the one hand, it is important that we have had these opportunities to score.

“On the other hand, I have to continue working on scoring to reach the next level in my development.”

“For me, it is important to use every situation in the game from which to work on my finishing,” he says.

“I’m trying to read and understand the situation accurately and am working on my technique in a training moment which is similar to the game. How should I move to finish even faster, for example. I keep working on such points.

“I watch videos on YouTube of how other players scored their goals, how they took the ball and solved the situation and so on. I also watch videos of my finishing to think about how I can play better.”

Kyogo putting in the hard work to continue improving and come back stronger next season.

There will be no one more disappointed at Celtic about not getting on the scoresheet in the Champions League than Kyogo Furuhashi.

The forward has showcased his brilliant ability in front of goal, which is aided by his fantastic movement and awareness in and around the penalty area.

Despite having chances to get off the mark, Kyogo wasn’t able to take advantage in a similar fashion to many of his teammates, which left the Bhoys coming away with frustration from their European showings.

Although he may be slightly disappointed, the Celtic striker has already started working on improving on the training ground and outside of Lennoxtown.

It just goes to show the brilliant attitude of the players, who are desperate to compete at the top level and will want to come back even stronger next season.

Of course, there is still a lot of work to do in order to return to the Champions League. However, the hard yards are already being put in, which is testament to the atmosphere Ange Postecoglou has built around the club.
