Last week was marked out as one that would define Brendan Rodgers’ time at Celtic. And then he left the club to go to Leicester.

However, Celtic’s double date in the capital with Hearts and Hibs proved the former manager correct – his former team possess immense character.

Celtic escaped their week of turmoil with their eight point lead in the Premiership intact. They also qualified for the semi finals of the Scottish Cup.

If ever there was a ‘get in and get out with the victory’ type of game, it was Saturday’s cup tie at Easter Road.

Returning to a ground they lost to in December, Celtic did everything they had to ensure a victory.

Hibs on the night were poor, but the Bhoys dug in deep and got the job done. James Forrest’s superb opener was added to by the captain Scott Brown.

Brown, enjoying a purple patch in front of goal, slammed in a stunning second to seal the tie.

The team showed every bit of the character their former manager tried to instil in them.

The Hoops would have expected no less than the two victories they secured in the last week.

However, the team deserve immense credit for their response to Rodgers leaving them for Leicester.

Neil Lennon’s stock at the club continues to rise. His first two games in his interim reign could have not gone better.

The home straight for eight

Rodgers’ time at Celtic has come to an end when Celtic could probably have done with their former manager the most.

His calmness and trust in his team was always repaid in the big games, especially cup ties.

Lennon will steady the ship until the end of the season and may or may not end up the permanent manager.

However, his job will be made easier by the immense character his squad has at their disposal.
