Latest Brendan Rodgers comments won’t wash with Celtic fans

Brendan Rodgers has opened up again on his time at Celtic, saying he “lived my dream” in Glasgow.

The Northern Irishman enjoyed a period of success like no other while in the Parkhead hotseat, winning all seven domestic trophies he entered. But his time in Scotland ended on a sour note when he became the first Celtic manager to jump ship mid-season – leaving in February to join Leicester City.

The majority of the Celtic support rightly pilloried him for that choice and he’s been a detested figure since. But out of touch Rodgers still seems keen to peddle the myth that Celtic meant more to him than any other club.

“I lived my dream managing Celtic, a club I supported. That journey will always be with me,” he told the Telegraph.

“But every manager and players will have goals and objectives they want to achieve in their career.

“Your situation can change very quickly. We won seven trophies on the spin and if I felt I could not take Celtic further it had to be the right club and I thought Leicester was too good an opportunity to turn down.

“The timing was not ideal but I left the team in a good place.”

Celtic fans won’t care what Rodgers has to say

The vast majority of the Celtic support wouldn’t have had too big an issue with Rodgers leaving at the end of the season. It was the timing of his departure that incensed most.

For Rodgers to say he left the team in a good place in pretty laughable. We had a bloated squad of players who he had signed and not played, loan players with no future at the club and numerous players out of contract in the summer.

On top of that, he took three important coaching team members with him just a day before a crucial league clash at Tynecastle. Had we not had Neil Lennon coming in and steadying the ship then we could have ended up with one trophy last season, and for that Rodgers would not have been forgiven.

He left us in a complete mess this summer and thankfully Lennon has helped to rectify that again.

The majority of the Celtic support won’t have a care in the world for what Rodgers says. He betrayed our trust and has since done nothing but made it worse. Thankfully we have a proper Celtic man in charge now.
