Latest transfer report doesn’t make good reading for Celtic’s Gustaf Lagerbielke

You have to wonder what’s next for Gustaf Lagerbielke as his Celtic future is yet to be resolved with the January transfer window at the halfway stage.

Even though the 23-year-old arrived last summer, the signs have been pretty clear for a while now that he simply doesn’t have a future under Brendan Rodgers.

The Celtic boss has only handed five starts to the player this season, with most of them coming during the early weeks of the season.

The likes of Chris Sutton have made their feelings clear and how he feels the centre-back is ‘surplus to requirements’ at Parkhead.

Whilst many would understand that feeling, the latest transfer report, from the Daily Record, suggests that Gustaf Lagerbielke is ‘no closer’ to finding a new club.

Only last week, Italian side Lecce expressed interest in taking the Celtic man on a loan deal – everything has since gone quiet.

That’s not a good sign for the player in question because, for the sake of his own career, he will want his future resolved as soon as possible.

Liam Scales has shown the way

That win at Ibrox at the start of the season stands out and how Liam Scales has never looked back since that match.

Even though Lagerbielke was the big-money signing and on paper the one who was supposed to lead the charge from the back.

In the end, it was Scales standing tall and proving his worth. Since then, he has continued to rise, and in truth, not many saw this coming.

You just wonder, and it’s great saying this in hindsight, if the club knew that Scales would become such an important player, then you are certain at least one of Lagerbielke and Maik Nawrocki wouldn’t have been purchased.
