The Lazio defeats to Celtic in the Europa League were ‘flops’ according to Italian football site Calciomio.

The French speaking writers added their defeats to Rennes and Cluj to the list too.

Celtic beat the impressive Serie A outfit home and away to seal knock-out qualification. However, it appears that the Italian supporters still can’t get over the better team winning the games.

They were the favourites to walk over the Hoops, Cluj and Rennes during the campaign. What Simone Inzaghi’s men didn’t account for was Celtic’s fighting spirit to the bitter end. Christopher Jullien and Olivier Ntcham both netted late in the two games to win the ties 2-1 and 1-2.

The French Lazio fans have put the entire Europa League campaign down as ‘a flop’, mentioning Celtic.

Calciomio said: “A victory against Cluj and defeats against Celtic and Rennes who were already eliminated, isn’t really glorious.”

Another flop on the list was the concentration of the Lazio players this season.

The Hoops benefited massively from that to net late in the Stadio Olympico from a slack pass.

However, their form since suggests that the Celtic wins were massive scalps for the Glaswegians.

Aftermath of Europa League ties continue in Italy

There wasn’t just drama on the park but off it too involving the supporters in both legs. Banning orders have reportedly just been handed out to 17 Lazio supporters who attacked Celtic fans in Rome.

Celtic were fined for their fans setting off fireworks during the away tie, as were their Italian counterparts. The Green Brigade section was also closed for the Rennes match as a result of bother too.

Plus, the granddaughter of Mussolini, who was mocked by Celtic fans, is continuing to berate the Glaswegians on Twitter.

Football is a funny game at times but this will be a game that will live long in the memory.
