Celtic’s chief scout Lee Congerton is reported to be on Anderlecht’s wanted list.

The recruitment guru has been linked to a reunion with Frank Arnesen by the Scottish Sun, who he worked with at Chelsea.

With many fans frustrated over Celtic’s current recruitment, they have welcomed this news with open arms.

Many fans have taken to twitter to react to the rumours.

Some Celtic fans believe that Celtic have already replaced Congerton should he leave the club or not.

While Celtic fans may rejoice at the news Congerton may be leaving the club, it is not all good news.

His arrival was hailed by fans as a sign that Brendan Rodgers had total control over football matters at the club.

If he is departing, it may mean that Rodgers considers his own future to be away from Celtic Park.

Be careful what you wish for

Rodgers clearly trusts Congerton, and bringing him to the club was a massive sign that Rodgers was intent on making an impact at Celtic.

If his chief scout was to leave, the manager may again indicate his displeasure at the board over recruitment.

Of course it’s entirely possible Rodgers himself believes recruitment has not been good enough. He may well be looking for a new chief scout himself, such has been Congerton’s record so far.

Whatever the case, the Celtic board must make a statement of backing their manager this January.

Failure to do so, coupled with the loss of a trusted ally, may prompt Rodgers to consider leaving the club in the summer.
