One of the major stories involving Celtic this season has been the emergence of Jeremie Frimpong. He has gone from being a player who was signed for the academy side, to one that is now comfortable in the Hoops first-team.
Credit for that has to be given to the player, and to manager Neil Lennon, for having the confidence in the player. So far, he has not looked out of place in the Celtic first-team.
Now that Frimpong is in the Hoops side, thoughts will turn to the next player that could make the breakthrough? One player that seems to be a real candidate is a player who joined the Hoops on the same day as Frimpong, Ireland under-21 international Lee O’Connor.
A Very versatile player

O’Connor has chance of featuring for the first-team this season because of his versatility. In his time at Manchester United, he played at both centre-back and in both full-back positions. You would think that his best chance to feature for the Hoops this season is at left-back or centre-back.
The club could well be on the lookout for another centre-back. Christopher Jullien and Kristoffer Ajer are the main men for the positions at the moment.
However, the two other players who have featured in that position recently, Nir Bitton and Hatem Abd Elhamed, are not strictly centre-backs.
Could help his first-team chances

However, O’Connor is a centre-back, even though he has played in the full-back role. That could help his chances of featuring for the Hoops first-team.
There might well be a game during Celtic’s busy schedule where they are having injury problems at centre-back. That could provide a chance for O’Connor.
Should he do well for the Hoops in his debut, then perhaps, like Frimpong, he can establish himself in the Hoops first-team.
Only time will tell, but O’Connor may well have a role to play for the Hoops this season.
