Legia Warsaw have finally listened to supporter feedback and reduced the ticket prices for the upcoming match against Celtic, which will celebrate the career of Artur Boruc.

Legia have been dealing with a furious backlash since they announced the cost of attending the fixture next Wednesday night, with reports indicating the goalkeeper would receive a share of the revenue. [Gol24]

That’s led to social media pleas from the iconic former Celtic star, who was hoping to wave goodbye to a large crowd at his beloved club.

In a statement released tonight, Legia confirmed they’d made a late U-turn on the cost, explaining: “On Wednesday, 20 July at 18:00 we will bid farewell to Artur Boruc with a unique match between Legia Warsaw and Celtic FC.

“Listening to the voice of the fans, today from 17:00 all ticket prices have been reduced by 20PLN. Tickets for children under 13 are available for 10PLN. All those who bought tickets earlier can get a refund of the price difference.

“We would also like to remind you that there is still a 30% discount with the new season pass. Come and say goodbye to Artur Boruc together with us!”

That’s a significant saving for angry supporters, but it remains to be seen whether it’s a promotion that works out in everyone’s favour.

Gol24 reports that before this statement was released, Legia had only sold a pitiful 4,200 tickets for the event, less than 15% of their stadium’s total capacity.

There would have been farcical and disappointing scenes had Boruc’s big goodbye taken place in front of such a small crowd.

Hopefully this move now incentivises their supporters to turn out in numbers.

Everyone wants a good night for Artur, and Celtic playing in a lively atmosphere has only pleased the Bhoys boss Ange Postecoglou this summer.
