The exact fee Leicester City paid to Celtic to lure Brendan Rodgers and his backroom team away in February has emerged.

The feeling of betrayal hasn’t really gone away amongst the Celtic support since. However, there may be a little bit of joy at the fact the English side had to shell out £8.8million to take the quartet down the road.

Football financial expert Kieran Maguire has taken a look at the Celtic annual report and picked out the interesting information on his Twitter feed.

Leicester compensation for Rodgers is more than was first thought

In late February, The Times reported that Leicester had paid Celtic £6million to get Rodgers out of his contract. While that would still have been a pretty hefty fee to pay for a manager, Celtic fans are likely to be pleased that the club received even more for their man.

Losing the Northern Irishman was undoubtedly a blow. However, the club haven’t exactly regressed since he departed. The team are still the holders of all three domestic trophies and Neil Lennon’s current side are arguably playing more exciting football.

No first-team players have regressed dramatically since Rodgers moved on. Instead, the likes of Kristoffer Ajer, Odsonne Edouard and Mikey Johnston have arguably improved under Lennon.

The club is in a great place both on and off the park, and the fans are excited for what’s to come. We now have a proper Celtic man in charge and the whole club is benefitting as a result.

Oh, and we’re £8.8million better off for it all.
