Celtic have been dealt an injury blow ahead of Thursday’s Europa League tie against Cluj. Neil Lennon has confirmed that Leigh Griffiths is still out, and will miss the fixture.

The news was reported by Radio Clyde senior sports reported Alison Conroy.

Griffith’s continuing absence from the squad will be felt particularly in this fixture. With Vakoun Issouf Bayo suspended for the game, the Hoops will be down to one fit striker – Odsonne Edouard.

Real concern if star striker suffers injury

The Hoops boss will be hoping that Edouard does not suffer an injury during the game, as that would be a real blow to the prospects of winning the game.

Should that happen, perhaps James Forrest or Ryan Christie could be deployed further up the park. There could also be a return for Scott Sinclair, who could perhaps contribute from off the bench.

The relief for the Hoops is that Bayo is suspended and not inured. That would be a real problem if he was absent due to injury.

Will manager consider January move for striker?

However, the striking situation at the club may lead to Neil Lennon buying another striker in the January transfer window. The Hoops will not want a repeat of the situation where they are left with only one fit striker for a fixture.

However, they will just have to get on with it for the game against Cluj. Thankfully Bayo will be back for the weekend’s fixture against Livingston. Until then though, the Hoops will have to just make do with what they have up-front.
