Neil Lennon has disclosed that he was ‘disappointed’ with Leigh Griffiths following events after the football shut down, but the player is once more in the Celtic boss’ good graces, the Daily Record reports.
Lennon is presumably referring to a party that the Hoops striker threw for his girlfriend, which broke lockdown rules, and as the Daily Record reported led to a warning from the club.
Earlier reports suggested that the player had been left out of Celtic’s pre-season trip to France over fitness concerns.
However, Griffiths is now seemingly back on goalscoring form. Lennon has praised the player for knuckling down and get back to what he does best.
“He’s knuckled down”
“I just love seeing him back playing and scoring goals – the things he’s good at. I was really disappointed with him following lockdown, but he’s knuckled down and is contributing now, which is really important” Lennon said, as quoted by the Daily Record.
“He was really good in the second half of last season for us and I’m looking for more of the same from him this season” Lennon concluded.
It did seem over the summer that it would have been a surprise to see Griffiths playing in a Celtic jersey again. He seemed down the pecking order of strikers, and arguably could have been considered fourth choice.
However, you can’t keep a good striker down. Griffiths has responded to the challenge thrown down to him by the Hoops.
Been selected for national team
He has scored two goals since returning to the side. He has also been selected for the Scotland squad for the upcoming Euro 2020 play-off.
At the moment everything seems to going well for Griffiths. However, he will know that he will have to keep working hard to stay in favour with Neil Lennon.
If he can do that, then Griffiths could have a very successful season for Celtic.
