Si Ferry has confirmed that Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths will be part of Open Goal’s coverage of the Euros.

Griffiths, who wasn’t selected to represent Scotland at the tournament after a difficult season, will be joining Ferry, Kevin Kyle and Paul Slane. During the SFA’s build-up to the tournament kicking off [Scotland National Team], the Open Goal panel featured prominently, speaking to Lewis Irons and comic actor Sanjeev Kohli. And they weren’t shy in revealing they had plans for Scotland’s matches.

Ferry revealed [Scotland National Team]:

“We’ve got a few guests that have been confirmed.

“The England game is a massive one. We can confirm now that Leigh Griffiths is going to come on live for that game.”

Kevin Kyle, a regular guest on Open Goal alongside Paul Slane, said:

“Because of the matches every day and night, I think one day there’s three matches, we’re going to try and give a review of them.

“It’ll be Open Goal style. We can’t be too serious, that’s why people listen in. [Viewers] like the humour of it and stuff.”

Leigh Griffiths joins Scott Brown in the world of punditry

With Scott Brown landing his own punditry gig in the national press, his former teammate Griffiths will be a welcome addition to the Scottish media landscape. Griffiths will be able to give insights on this current Scotland squad, while regaling the audience with stories about Celtic.

It’s win-win, then.

Griffiths has featured on Open Goal before. In 2020, Griff reflected on his career so far with Si Ferry [Open Goal], and while his on-pitch persona is often controversial, he came across as genuinely insightful. He even bemoaned his own bad luck in certain, more bizarre situations during his career, in humorous fashion.

Given he battered two free kicks in against England a few years back, he’s the perfect guest to talk about Scotland’s first major tournament meeting with the Auld Enemy since 1996.

Over recent days, Griffiths has been sharing videos of him working on a personal training routine. After a very difficult season with Celtic, his future at the club is in some doubt. Whether Ange Postecoglou will appreciate the work Griff is putting in, and whether it reaps dividends, is yet to be seen.

For now though, he’s a welcome addition to a day that’ll already be good fun. That is, provided Scotland get the result we’re hoping for!
