Neil Lennon has announced his Celtic team for today’s Scottish Premiership match away to Hamilton, as per the official club Twitter account.
The full match squad is as follows:
Starting XI – Forster, Welsh, Jullien, Ajer, Forrest, Taylor, Brown, McGregor, Ntcham, Edouard, Griffiths.
Substitutes – Bain, Bauer, Hayes, Rogic, Christie, Arazni, Klimala.
The headline news is, of course, the debut of Stephen Welsh in what looks to be a three-man defence alongside Christopher Jullien and Kristoffer Ajer.
The 20-year-old is a Celtic academy graduate and got a taste of senior professional action earlier this season out on loan at Greenock Morton.
However, he was mostly deployed as a right-back there, having spent much of his development as a centre-half.
The player was recalled by the Hoops last month and Lennon clearly trusts him enough to cover the position moving forward, else we would have signed a defender in January.
It’s always exciting to see a young player make their debut and hopefully he does the business today in a crucial match.
After Rangers dropped more points yesterday, at home to Aberdeen, this afternoon’s fixture could be another defining one in the race for the title.
A victory would move us seven points clear at the top of the table.
Outside of defence, it’s business as usual in the Celtic team with big hitters like Odsonne Edouard, James Forrest and Scott Brown all starting.
Hopefully, the strength of the starting eleven allows us to start the game with the same urgency and attacking threat as Wednesday night’s match against St Johnstone.
