Celtic boss Neil Lennon has disclosed an injury concern ahead of next Sunday’s Glasgow derby at Ibrox.

He confirmed to the Celtic Twitter account following the 5-0 win over St Mirren that Kristoffer Ajer went off towards the end of the game with a calf problem, but that he hopes the injury isn’t a significant one.

He was feeling his calf a little bit but we are hoping it’s nothing significant” Lennon said.

It would be a blow for the Hoops if Ajer was ruled out of the trip to Ibrox. His partnership with Christopher Jullien has been key to Celtic’s success this season.

Hoops won at Ibrox with player missing

However, it should be remembered that the Hoops won 2-0 at Ibrox earlier this season without Ajer in the side.

There is also the fact that Hatem Abd Elhamed made his long-awaited return to the first-team four months out as Ajer’s replacement against St Mirren.

If Ajer misses out perhaps the biggest decision Neil Lennon will have to take is if to play two or three centre-backs.

You would imagine that no matter the circumstances, Christopher Jullien will start the game, and you imagine Nir Bitton would too.

Blow isn’t as severe as it could have been

Only time will tell if Ajer will make the game, a win in which would see Celtic all but clinch nine in a row. However, the return of Elhamed means that Ajer’s potential absence isn’t as big a blow as it could have been.

There is no doubt though, that Lennon would prefer to have Ajer fit and available, and it will be interesting to see if he is able to recover from his injury in time to declare himself fit for the match.
