Celtic boss Neil Lennon has confirmed that he hopes to involve Hoops loanee Daniel Arzani more often in first-team football before the end of the season, reports the official club Twitter account.
Arzani has rarely featured for the Hoops this season, making only one five minute appearance in the Scottish Cup versus Partick Thistle as he recovered from a knee injury.
However, despite his lack of playing time, Neil Lennon has indicated that he would like to feature the player in first-team action before the end of the season.
“May start to feature”
“He’s played a couple of development games and there’s another one next week. If he comes through that okay he may start to feature before the end of the season” Lennon said, as quoted by the Celtic Twitter account.
Lennon’s comments might be a bit of a surprise to some Celtic fans. After all, the player has not featured in the first-team squad since the 4-1 win over Hamilton over a month ago.
Perhaps the comments give a clue about Arzani’s future at Celtic though. His two-year loan deal expires at the end of the season.
Due to return to England at end of the season
He is due to return to Manchester City, but the fact that Neil Lennon wants the player to feature for the first-team before the end of the season may be an indication that he is keen to keep the player at Celtic next season.
That will obviously depend on what Arzani and Manchester City feel about the situation. However, it will be interesting to see if Arzani does get the chances Lennon talks about.
That might not happen until the Hoops clinch the league title though. How that will benefit Arzani as a player remains to be seen.
However, it must be considered promising for the player’s future that Lennon does intend to involve Arzani before the end of the season, but only time will tell if that means he will be returning to the club next season.
