Celtic have shown enormous faith in Neil Lennon by offering him the job on a permanent basis. The club announced this to fans via Twitter less than an hour after full-time of a momentous Scottish Cup victory.

The timing and nature of the announcement shows that the club are fully behind the Northern Irishman. They must now back him with significant funds to strengthen a team that looks dead on their feet.

It seems remarkable to suggest that a team who won all domestic trophies on offer limped through a season but that was the case with Celtic this year. The Hoops were unconvincing for the majority of the season with the only saving grace being their big game displays.

Lennon must unite the fans

With so much on the line next year, the Celtic faithful must be fully behind Lennon. The 47-year-old has passed all the tests put before him in his spell as interim boss.

There’s an argument that he deserves his chance to build a new Celtic team and finish off the job he started. It’s going to be a busy summer ahead but if anyone knows how to make Celtic work then it’s Neil Lennon.

We must now unite behind our new leader as a new period of Celtic begins. One thing’s for sure, it’s going to be an enjoyable ride.
