Lennon promises Celtic changes; step up Ismaila Soro

Neil Lennon made an exciting comment about fresh changes ahead of tomorrow’s game between Celtic and Ross County.

The Hoops will take on the Staggies at Parkhead in another must-win game. Celtic have won three consecutive games as momentum continues to grow in Glasgow’s East End.

Celtic have been further bolstered by the securing of the quadruple treble vs Hearts on Sunday. Central to that win was Scott Brown who played for 105 minutes. It was a mixed performance too after strolling the first half before being passive in the second. Ismaila Soro took his place for the second half of extra-time.

And it looks as though the little Ivorian is going to get his chance to win his starting jersey back tomorrow. Lennon has been speaking to the media today and made the following remarks when discussing his team selection:

The right decision – Soro fighting for a place in Rangers vs Celtic clash

This is brilliant to see.

My biggest concern after the cup final was that Lennon would use it as an excuse. An excuse to keep Brown in the team regularly at the expense of the impressive Soro. An excuse to halt what would be, in my opinion, the progression of the team.

Soro is best placed to overtake Brown in the race to be his long-term replacement. With the legendary captain’s contract up at the end of the season, we need his replacement to get used to playing in big games for us.

You can’t keep shielding Soro from big matches just because an under-performing Brown is fit. Playing the Ivorian at Ibrox should be taken into consideration. These are the games that will have him prepared for taking over the captain’s position next year.

Some impressive performances in the build-up to the derby should see Soro make an appearance. If Lennon doesn’t see that as a possibility then that’s a major concern.

Leigh Griffiths’ comments on Brown last night didn’t help either (Scottish Sun). He said the veteran had to play in every big match for Celtic. But that couldn’t be more wrong. He didn’t play against a high-quality Lille side and we bagged our only win in Europe this season. Soro did – and he bossed it too. Therefore, it stands to reason that he continues to play in bigger games.

So hopefully Lennon is going to give him a fair crack at the whip. Throwing him in against County is a good sign. This is his big chance to win his place back. Hopefully he continues to impress with high-intensity performances.

In other news, Celtic have reportedly been given a big boost regarding the short-term future of Odsonne Edouard.
