Celtic interim boss Neil Lennon has spoken of his delight after news emerged that Scott Sinclair has agreed a new one-year deal at Celtic Park.
Sinclair is now tied down to the club until 2021, and Lennon told Sky Sports he was pleased that the deal has been done.
“He’s a very good player, and he’s been a good player since he walked in the door” Lennon said.
“Difficult to replicate”
“He maybe hasn’t hit the heights of his first season but that was a stellar season and it’s very difficult to replicate that year-on-year.”
Lennon’s comments are certainly honest. They will also for the most part echo what the Celtic support think of the player.
In his three years at the club, he has made a significant contribution. He has been one of the most important players at the club.
Failed to hit the heights
However, as Lennon notes, he has perhaps failed to hit the heights he achieved in his first season at Celtic Park.
Sinclair’s first season at the club saw him hit 25 goals and be named as Scotland’s player of the year.
He hasn’t lived up to that since. But he has been a more than useful player for the Hoops in his time at the club.
He also brings experience, which the Hoops will need for the Champions League qualifiers. All in all, it is a good move for the club.
