“Lethal”; Key Celtic man gives his verdict on firing front three

Callum McGregor, the Celtic captain, must surely love his job sometimes, especially when he’s got amazing attacking talent ahead of him.

Fine, the pressure, the expectations; all massive. Having to be an ambassador and face of a world-famous football club, it can’t be easy. Nor can keeping up a consistent level of performance for a team expected to win 9 times out of 10.

He does make it look easy, though. And as he beamed about the on-fire front three he’s supplying with passes, you could tell he was revelling in his role as a driving force for Celtic.

After last night’s win, McGregor said [Celtic FC]:

“The front three are outstanding. We have a really strong front unit and they all got goals. They were lethal. You see it in transitions, they take off and they’ve got quality.

“It’s not just movement, it’s the speed and they have the accuracy that they can do what they want to do. The finishes are top level, so it’s brilliant for these guys to be producing.

“That’s the way the manager wants us to play: to expose teams, keep them high, then when we get the ball to accelerate the attack.’

“Kyogo has been brilliant, his movement is so difficult to deal with, and when he has a chance to finish, he finishes as well.”

Celtic captain Callum McGregor has to be loving supplying a “lethal” front three

Admittedly, it’s probably easier to pick out Kyogo in particular. The recently-dyed hair of the Japan striker left McGregor with a quandary. He explained [Celtic FC]:

“His hairdo? It’s all right. It’s quite nice. You’d think it would be easier for defenders to mark him now, but maybe not!”

Yes, the front three of Jota, Kyogo and Abada were on sensational form last night. You can’t function as an attack, though, unless you’ve got an efficient midfield behind you. That’s vey much the case at Celtic.

McGregor may not have been as pinpoint with his passing last night, with 85% success [Fotmob]. But he was integral in plenty of moves against Ferencvaros, most notably Abada’s goal which put Celtic back ahead on the night.

Someone with such an acute reading of the game, ability to recover the ball and advance it accurately is an absolute asset. McGregor is absolutely that.

And while he’s right to praise the front three, he ought to reflect on his significant importance to this side.
