Lewis Morgan is far from Celtic exit as POTY awards show

Sunderland winger Lewis Morgan is far from finished at Celtic going by last night’s POTY awards.

The two main winners of the accolades spent a time away from the club on helpful loans.

Young Player of the Year Kristoffer Ajer had a spell at Kilmarnock a couple of years ago, while Callum McGregor shone in his season long spell at Notts County.

Surely if Morgan applies himself on his return to Glasgow, he has a chance to follow them.

Can Lewis Morgan be the missing link for Celtic?

It’s no secret that the Hoops are lacking some much needed prowess out wide.

Scott Sinclair looks good on paper with his stats but the performances recently aren’t backing up.

Morgan will return to the Celtic fold at the end of the season but will try and help the Black Cats gain promotion first.

Under his old St Mirren boss Jack Ross, the 22-year-old has played 18 times since joining in January.

However, he only has two goals to show for it.

Nevertheless, Ross’ continued confidence to play him shows the Glasgow boy has something about him.

Hoops fans didn’t see enough of him to form a proper opinion as he was further down the pecking order.

However, space may be freed up next season but he will still have competition.

Lewis Morgan must fight for spot

Players will come and go in the summer and on the wings it’ll be no different.

Sinclair’s future remains to be seen and the current loanees will be going back to their clubs.

However, the arrival of Maryan Shved is probably Morgan’s biggest competition.

The technical winger was signed in January but loaned back out to his former club Karpaty Lviv.

The 21-year-old has scored 11 goals in 20 matches with three assists in the league.

If Morgan wants to make it at Celtic, he’ll need to ensure the Ukrainian international has a quiet pre-season.

Another loan wouldn’t dent Morgan much as he is on a long contract, but he’ll be raring to go at Parkhead.

He must take Ajer and McGregor’s wins to show that it is possible to make it.

If not, then it is another wasted Scottish talent who perhaps made the jump to quick.
