Celtic signing of Liam Burt earlier this summer was a bit of a surprise, particularly as the player had been released by bitter rivals Rangers.
However, the staff at Celtic must feel that he can do a job for the club. This season he will be mostly featuring for the Celtic reserve side.
He did have a taste of first-team action in a recent training game, however. He explained that it was a lot different that playing for the reserve side.
“I really enjoyed it”
“The second day I was here, we had a mixed game and I really enjoyed it” he said, as reported by the Celtic View (Volume 55, Issue 10, Page. 35).
“The standard and tempo was really high, and I was kind of flung into the deep end but I’ve always found I deal with situations like that better if I don’t think about it too much.”
Being around first-team players can help improve game
Just being around the Hoops first-team on occasion could help Burt improve his game. It will be interesting to see if he can manage to make a breakthrough into the first-team this season. He will not be thinking about that though.
Burt will be concentrating on trying to impress for the reserve side. If he can impress for the reserves for the rest of the season, he could have a real chance of featuring for the Hoops at some stage of the season.
