It has been a whirlwind 24 hours for Liam Burt. Firstly, the midfielder was announced to have joined Celtic on a two-year deal.
Then he scored the winning penalty for the Celtic development side in the Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Challenge Cup tie against Queen’s Park.
It is not a day that Burt will forget anytime soon. Perhaps the most interesting part of the Burt deal isn’t that he is a former Rangers player.
Set to join Hoops reserve squad
It is the fact that he is going to be joining the Celtic Reserve squad, as reported by the Hoops’ official website. That is a bit of a surprise when you consider the age of the player – 20.
However, perhaps the idea is that the player will spend most of his first year at Celtic playing football on a regular basis.
He could then kick on and try to find a place in the Hoops first-team towards the end of his first season with the Hoops.
May have to bide his time
Celtic have plenty of midfielders. Therefore, Burt may have to bide his time before getting a first-team opportunity.
However, Celtic must think he has something to offer the club going forward. Therefore, we might not see the best of the player for a while yet.
However, it was certainly a debut to remember for the latest Celtic signing.
