Liam Scales is about to get a big reward for his impressive recent form at Celtic.
The Irish Sun say that the Hoops defender will be included in the latest Republic of Ireland squad, named by Stephen Kenny on Thursday.
Kenny was in attendance at Celtic Park as we went down to a cruel 2-1 UEFA Champions League loss to Lazio. Scales was an impressive performer yet again, despite a couple of slack passes during the first half.
The former Shamrock Rovers man has been in Ireland squads in the recent past, but is yet to make his debut. It seems very much like that could be in the post with qualifiers against Greece and Gibraltar later this month.
Scales can play at centre-back and left-back. That could be vital with defensive pair John Egan and Callum O’Dowda ruled out of the matches.
Ireland are out of contention for Euro 2024 after taking just three points from their first five qualifying matches. Yet the games are still competitive fixtures, and Scales could really continue his remarkable rise by making an impression at international level.

The first match against the Greeks could see him directly up against former Hoops team-mate Giorgos Giakoumakis. That would be an interesting battle in Dublin.
Scales continues to impress in a Celtic shirt. As already mentioned, his performance wasn’t faultless against Lazio. He did give the ball away carelessly a few times.

But, overall, he is performing so much better than most Celtic fans would have expected. His form is that good that many would like to see him alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers for a run of matches.
Keep up the good work, Liam.
