Liam Scales on his aims for 2024/25 at Celtic following stunning breakthrough campaign

Celtic defender Liam Scales has signalled his intention to keep the good times rolling at the club once the new campaign begins.

The Republic of Ireland international was handed a surprise chance to impress by Brendan Rodgers early in 2023/24 due to an injury crisis in defence, and it is fair to say he made the most of his opportunity.

Establishing himself as a first-team regular, Scales made 45 appearances in all competitions for the Bhoys as they wrapped up a domestic double, registering one goal and three assists in the process [Transfermarkt].

Reaping his rewards, the former Shamrock Rovers man also signed a four-year contract extension at the club, cementing his status as an important figure for the coming years.

Nevertheless, he isn’t keen to let up there, laying out how he plans to continue thriving at Celtic once 2024/25 comes around.

Cited via The Daily Record, Scales has put forward a fairly simple vision of how he plans to continue progressing at Celtic next season, citing regular minutes and fighting to win silverware again as two of his main aims.

He explained: “I just want to go into next year and have the same sort of season, playing regularly and being successful, winning trophies. I have enjoyed almost every minute as it was a great step to cement myself in the team at Celtic.”

Later on, he delved into how he deals with the high expectations set at Parkhead, as he said: “Once you accept that’s the way it is, you know that you are constantly under scrutiny as people are looking for success.”

You get the impression Scales is only getting started as a central figure at Celtic, having learned a lot over the past year about the insatiable hunger you need to have in order to succeed and deliver silverware.

His story is an inspirational one that doesn’t happen often; nevertheless, he is determined to be defined by his football ability rather than someone who has enacted a miraculous career turnaround.

Overall, he has earned his stripes at Celtic, and the challenge now for him is to keep proving why amid the likelihood he will have increased competition for his place in 2024/25.
