Celtic are back in action this weekend, and Liam Scales is determined for the Bhoys to build on their excellent domestic start at the Global Energy Stadium.

The Republic of Ireland international has made nine appearances across all competitions this term, registering two goals in the process against Kilmarnock and Slovan Bratislava.

With Celtic flying in the Scottish Premiership, the Bhoys equalled a 118-year clean sheet record against St Johnstone last weekend after managing to go six matches without conceding on league duty.

Although a sobering Celtic defeat in Dortmund on Tuesday has slightly dampened spirits, it is time to get with the Friday feeling and look forward to putting that right this weekend.

Amid Celtic travelling to Ross County on Sunday, Wicklow-native Liam Scales cut a determined figure in his pre-match press duties today.

Liam Scales details Celtic’s ‘foundation’ to build on

Speaking to official Celtic channels, Scales has admitted the Bhoys’ ongoing clean sheet record is a ‘foundation’ he is desperate to build on for as long as possible.

He stated: “I want to be part of a defence that keeps clean sheets and keeps winning games.

“We know that if we can have a good foundation and keep a clean sheet, we’re more than likely going to score goals with the attacking quality we have and that’s going to win us games.

“It gives us something else to aim for, to keep going on this run and go as long as we can.”

Liam Scales is now a Celtic stalwart

It would’ve been hard to envisage saying this a year ago, but Scales’ rise to prominence at Celtic has landed him in a position where it is difficult to imagine him not in the side.

On Sunday, it will be intriguing to see if Auston Trusty keeps his place alongside him or if someone like Maik Nawrocki could come into consideration.

Regardless, expect Scales to lead from the front after confirmation that Cameron Carter-Vickers misses out with injury for Celtic in Dingwall.

There are three important points at stake before the international break. Hopefully, the reigning champions can enter the period in a positive headspace.
