Liel Abada has paid tribute to Nir Bitton for helping him settle at Celtic, telling an amusing anecdote about being bailed out by the midfielder in the middle of the night.

Abada and Bitton’s friendship, as compatriots, has been well documented throughout the season.

Indeed, even manager Ange Postecoglou has paid tribute to the experienced midfielder for helping the youngster settle at Celtic Park.

Abada has now described how Bitton was an ‘icon’ for him and even bailed him out of a humourous situation or two over the months, specifically after being locked out of his flat!

As quoted by The Daily Record [28/05 print edition, page 63], Abada said: “After the game in Europe in Germany (against Leverkusen), we went back to Glasgow. I got home and probably my neighbour left the door locked from the outside.

“It was two in the morning and when I tried to open the door it didn’t work. I didn’t know what to do so I called Nir. He saw a call from me and I do not want to tell you his reaction – but it was funny!

“Usually when you go out to a new place, especially overseas, it’s harder to adapt. Luckily I got a life friend in Nir. He helped me adapt quickly with everything; house, car and more. So I have to thank him for that.

“I am a very close friend of his since I came to Celtic. He made an amazing way in the team with all the titles he took. He is an admirable figure for all the people in the country.

“I want to emulate him here. He was an icon. Everyone loves and appreciates him.”

Liel Abada aiming for big second season at Celtic

Abada had a terrific debut campaign in a Celtic shirt and could be even better next term. With the experience of a year in Scotland, training in this team and naturally improving as a young player, he’ll be in amongst the goals again.

He won’t have the specific support of Bitton after his exit, but again, that could allow Abada to mature and step up from a settling in period.

You’d certainly have to back the winger to be a key part of the manager’s plans and I can’t wait to see him back in action after the summer break.

Just always remember your keys Liel!
