Former Rangers favourite Lorenzo Amoruso reckons that Celtic can pounce on some “limitations” in the Lazio team when they face the Serie A side this Thursday.

Neil Lennon’s men head into their first of two games against the Rome outfit top of Europa League Group E. They’ve taken a commendable four points from their first two games but the clash against Simone Inzaghi’s outfit could be their toughest test yet.

However former Italy youth international Amoruso thinks the Hoops are facing a wounded animal.

He told La Lazio Siamo Noi: “Lazio are superior, but Celtic’s is a team that can create problems, especially if they take advantage of the Biancocelesti’s limitations this year.

“There have been several situations in which Lazio have been limited, just look at the first half against Atalanta.

“The real problem is that Lazio lack focus, which is a mental problem that you’ll pay for against physical teams like Celtic.”

Amoruso words are encouraging for Celtic

It’s encouraging to hear Amoruso talking about a lack of focus from the Italian outfit. When we draw these elite sides in the Europa League we always hope that they will take their eye off the ball and focus on their league campaigns.

Lazio have already shown that the Europa League isn’t their primary focus this season and Neil Lennon will just hope that they continue to feel that way for the next fortnight or so.

If we can win one of our next two matches then we’ll be in a terrific place to qualify for the last 32 of the competition. It’s very achievable too. Rarely in the past few seasons has a top European club arrived in Glasgow and not been seen as big favourites.

Some of that may be down to Lazio’s current form and perceived lack of European ambition, but Celtic are also a different animal at home now. If we can win on Thursday this team may just take another step forwards.
