Celtic announced the signing of Luca Connell on a four-year deal from Bolton early on Saturday. The move came as a pleasant surprise to the Hoops fans, as it came almost out of the blue.

Now Connell has commented on the attributes he can bring to the club in an interview on the club’s YouTube channel.

“I like to get on the ball, pass. If it’s a scrappy game I’ll get stuck in” he said. Intriguingly, he also revealed that he can play two different positions.

“Left-footed, left-sided mainly midfield, or fill in left-back.”

Will Connell Celtic’s back-up left-back? He could well be. The Hoops have plenty of midfielders at the club as it is.

When playing for Bolton last season though, he played almost all of his games as a defensive midfielder. Perhaps then, he is going to be the natural successor to Scott Brown.

Could eventually take over from Hoops legend

Connell can spend the next few seasons learning from one of the best defensive midfielders in the business, and can take over from him in the side once Brown retires.

Connell is only 18-years-old, so there is no rush for him to be in the starting line-up right away. He has signed a four-year contract, so time is on his side. Connell is a signing for the future – here’s hoping he has a bright one at Celtic.
