Celtic winger, Luis Palma, is a player who is extremely highly rated back in his homeland of Honduras.
Whenever he goes on international duty the media scramble surrounding him is huge. So when he got his big move to Celtic, you can just imagine the hype surrounding him, especially when he played in the Champions League.
Ten goals and ten assists is a superb return for any winger but when eight of those goals and nine of the assists were all before Christmas, that tells a story about Palma‘s first season at Celtic.
And the Honduran knows it.
Luis Palma to take ‘a look in the mirror’
In a very honest assessment of his first season at the club, Palma admits that he knows he must be better than just ‘good’ at Celtic if he wants to make his move a success.
Palma said [RadioHouse Media via The Scottish Sun], “I joined Celtic and had a spectacular first few months.
“I have to be aware of that and I have to be realistic with myself. I have to look in the mirror and tell the truth.
“I have an obligation to play a better role than ‘good’.
“But the final few months of the season were better for me. I always carry a saying with me — ‘Never give up until you reach your best version’.
“I will never give up trying to fulfil my dreams. In Greece, there were also bad moments for me at the start not everything was good but you need to have resilience.
“If you are having a difficult moment at any time in life, this is the case.
“You need resilience to know everything will get better.”
This kind of honesty will go down really well with the Celtic support. Because, for all his talent, Palma was very inconsistent last season.
The Honduran international was frustrating to watch at times and with a full pre-season at Celtic under his belt with Brendan Rodgers, I am hoping he will kick on next season.
With another crack at the Champions League coming up, Palma will have the perfect opportunity to show why Celtic paid the guts of £4m for him last summer.
