Mikael Lustig could end his Celtic career just like Henrik Larsson

Mikael Lustig may well be making his 254th and final Celtic start at Hampden against Hearts. The full-back is rumoured to have been offered a contract with Malmo in his native Sweden and could move back this summer.

That means that he may be saying goodbye to the club he’s called home for the past seven years.

Lustig has enjoyed immense success at Parkhead. He’s been a part of all eight of Celtic’s league titles and numerous cup successes. If he helps the club to more success against the Jambos then he’ll have won four Scottish Cups to go along with his four League Cup triumphs.

Striking similarities

A Swede spending seven (full) years at the club and then leaving as a fans favourite. It rings a bell from somewhere.

Of course Lustig hasn’t had quite the same impact as the King of Kings. Few have, but the love towards a Scandinavian Celtic player hasn’t been the same since Larsson.

The former Hoops striker ended his Celtic career in a Scottish Cup final. Larsson netted twice in 2004 as the Hoops came from behind to beat Dunfermline Athletic. Celtic’s current right-back has the chance to end his Celtic story in a similar way.
