Former Celtic and Poland star Maciej Zurawski has praised new Hoops signing Patryk Klimala, The Herald reports.

Zurawski scored 22 goals and assisted 10 times in 65 matches for Celtic in a three-season spell at the club (Transfermarkt).

Having also won a massive 72 caps for his country, he is well placed to comment on the Polish U21 talent who has just made his first start for the Hoops.

The verdict is positive and the 43-year-old is convinced he has the skills to play alongside Odsonne Edouard or Leigh Griffiths.

As quoted by The Herald, he said: “He is very quick. Very, very quick. And he’s extremely good one-on-one, when he faces up the defender.

“The one area of his game he has to improve his finishing, converting chances into goals. But you can see that he has the potential – and that finishing touch will come in time.

“This is a really good opportunity for Patryk Klimala, who has gone to the perfect club in Celtic. He will get great experience at Celtic.

“Obviously I’m not the Celtic coach, so you have to imagine what Neil Lennon is thinking about how to use Patryk. But I think he could form a partnership with either Edouard or Griffiths, because he’s good enough.”

Initial signs are positive

Having made just one start for Celtic since signing last month, supporters haven’t had much of a chance to form their own verdict on Klimala so far.

It would be incredibly harsh to criticise his performance against Clyde in terrible weather conditions, likewise, it’s too early to come to any sort of final conclusion about the potential that the 21-year-old holds.

Zurawski though will know the player from his time in the Polish top-flight and international youth sides, so it’s exciting to hear he thinks there’s a player there.

While Klimala missed a golden chance in that Scottish Cup game, he did look sharp with his movement and ability to link-up with teammates.

The pace that Zurawski mentions was also apparent.

The opinion of the former Celtic striker will have to do for now when it comes to our hopes and dreams for Klimala but hopefully Lennon finds a place for him in a future starting eleven soon.
