Morecambe manager Derek Adams has confirmed that Celtic loanee Liam Shaw will spend the rest of the season at the Mazuma Stadium.
The 21-year-old signed for the English League One side on a season-long deal towards the end of last summer’s transfer window.
And the midfielder has been able to pick up consistent minutes down south, making 24 appearances for Morecambe this season.
The former Sheffield Wednesday man has only been a Celtic player for around 18 months after joining the Hoops on a pre-contract deal in 2021.
After featuring in Ange Postecoglou’s first pre-season at Parkhead, the Englishman stuck around the squad for the opening half of the 2021/22 campaign.
Shaw made two appearances for the first team, but last January, he was moved out on loan to Scottish Premiership side Motherwell.
His time at Fir Park was a mixed success, with the midfielder unable to earn regular minutes in Graham Alexander’s squad.
Following a season of not playing much football, a breakthrough at Celtic was always unlikely, and another loan spell this season was required.
He joined former Ross County boss Derek Adams at Morecambe, as the Scottish manager aims to guide them clear of relegation in the third tier.
So far, Shaw seems to have enjoyed a regular spell in the Morecambe team that sits just inside the relegation spots, making 24 appearances and contributing to four goals.
As seems to be the case with the majority of Celtic’s loans, it was revealed by Adam’s that the clubs his side has been loaning from have options to recall each player in January.
However, the Morecambe boss also revealed that the deadline for a player to be recalled from the EFL club has now passed, and Shaw will be spending the rest of the season there.
He said [SussexLive]: “We’ve got those five loanees now. We’re now past the deadline where a loan player can go back to their parent club, or I can allow them to go back. I always have a two-way transaction that allows me a period of time to replace a loan signing.
“We’ve allowed a few players to leave, which has left us with money in the budget, and there may be a possible outgoing before the window closes.”

Although there wasn’t any indication that Celtic was considering recalling Liam Shaw from his current loan move, it might have been a topic that was briefly discussed, as is likely the case with all loan players.
With Morecambe currently in the fight to stay up amongst several clubs in English League One, there is a chance that we may have considered sending him elsewhere.
However, it is the correct decision for both the club and the player to allow Shaw to remain at his current club.
The midfielder is already earning regular minutes, and he will be settled into the squad. So, why risk losing that by recalling him and sending the player elsewhere?
Spending the entire season at the Mazuma Stadium may also entice Morecambe or other English clubs to make a permanent move, should his successful loan spell continue.
It should be interesting to see how the Celtic man gets on in the second half of the campaign. But we know for sure now his time will be spent at Morecambe.
