Derek McInnes’ continued failure to get the better of Celtic has seemingly left many Aberdeen fans furious with him.
Neil Lennon’s Hoops once again put McInnes’ men to the sword at the national stadium – the fifth time Celtic have beaten the Dons their in the last eight cup competitions.
Ryan Christie and Mohamed Elyounoussi got the goals in what was yet another one-sided cup clash between the two sides. Aberdeen still haven’t beaten Celtic at Hampden since McInnes took over as manager.
In fact, since Celtic sacked Ronny Deila and brought in Brendan Rodgers, McInnes’ record against the Hoops overall has been dreadful. The two sides have come up against each other on 21 occasions since then, and Aberdeen have only managed to win once.
Even that success – a 1-0 win at Celtic Park on trophy day in 2018 – meant very little to the Hoops. In fact, an Aberdeen win that day meant that they pipped Rangers to second place. It was hardly a devastating result for Celtic supporters.
Yes, McInnes has had his joy against Celtic in the past. He managed to knock us out of the Scottish Cup back in February 2014 when Neil Lennon was in charge during his first spell. He also managed a few home wins against Lennon and then Deila.
But that was before this new era of dominance from the champions came into effect. Since then, McInnes’ side – who take pride in bigging themselves up as genuine challengers to Celtic – haven’t landed a punch on the treble-treble winners.
And it appears that the Dons fans are getting fed up of being Celtic’s punching bag. After yet another cup defeat to Lennon’s serial winners, McInnes took the brunt of their anger on social media post match.
