Many Celtic fans not buying into Neil Lennon's fringe-player promise

It doesn’t appear as though Neil Lennon’s promise to start using his squad has led to too much leeway in the Celtic support.

Lennon spoke in his pre-match press conference yesterday for tonight’s clash against Lille at Celtic Park, and promised to give Patryk Klimala, Ismaila Soro, and David Turnbull game-time this evening.

It was a long overdue remark given how poor the midfield has been all season. Any combination of Scott Brown, Callum McGregor, and Olivier Ntcham has disappointed, with the Hoops now struggling to dominate games domestically.

Meanwhile, the likes of Soro and Turnbull have had to sit on the bench and watch dismal performance after dismal performance. That’s despite the fact they’ve generally impressed in any cameo displays they’ve had in recent times.

But even though Lennon has promised to give them a chance this evening, not many see this as an opening to a big flurry of chances for the duo. Instead, many are worried that this is simply a one-off from the manager. A token gesture in order to keep the baying mob happy perhaps.

After all, the manager is under the biggest load of pressure he’s been under across both of his spell as Celtic manager. With fans protesting his tenure outside Parkhead and results continuing to decline into scandalous territory, it’s essential he says all of the right things.

He’s not stupid either. That’s one thing you can never accuse Neil of being. He knows what the supporters want or have wanted for a long time. More minutes for fringe players who have impressed in the past is high up the list.

So there’s a genuine fear there. Not all of the supporters are buying this. Many will be too concerned that the likes of Brown will just come back into the team for Sunday’s game against Kilmarnock in the Premiership and normal service will be resumed.

And that was reflected in the reaction to Lennon’s comments from yesterday. Let’s take a look at what the fans are saying about the prospect of Turnbull, Soro, and Klimala all getting minutes under their belts:
