Marian Shved has a massive few weeks ahead at Celtic

Marian Shved’s future at Celtic certainly looks brighter than it did 48 hours ago.

Celtic manager Neil Lennon stated in an interview in Dubai that the Ukrainian had trained well (Celtic Twitter). However, the Hoops boss then followed that up with a more detailed analysis of Shved’s current situation.

Indeed, Lenny stated in the Scottish Sun that he’s liked what he’s seen of Shved in Dubai. He also stated that he now has a chance to “explode” into contention.

It’s a vast improvement on his situation during the first half of the campaign. After all, Shved only made two appearances out of a possible 38 games. He also only managed to make the matchday squad on six occasions too (Transfermarkt).

But now it looks as though his possibilities in this Celtic team are about to change.

Next few weeks are huge for Shved

If Shved is to make an impact, you feel it’s going to have to be in the early stages of the second half of the campaign. And what an opportunity he has given recent departures and injury concerns.

Shved is primarily a right-winger, but is also able to play in the number 10 position or indeed on the left. Meanwhile, Scott Sinclair has left the club whilst Lewis Morgan is closing in on a move to the USA (Daily Mail). That’s two big rivals leaving the club that allows Shved to move forward in the pecking order.

In addition to that, Mikey Johnston has apparently picked up an injury knock too. The Daily Record stated that Johnston could be missing for up to a fortnight. In the same report, Lennon confirmed that Mohamed Elyounoussi and Tom Rogic could only start training this week.

That leaves a big gap available down the left for Shved or even Daniel Arzani to make an impact. However, the former should have a keen eye on the number 10 spot over the next few weeks too. With Ryan Christie set to miss the games against Partick, Kilmarnock, and Ross County, it opens up a door for Shved to impress in his position. Tom Rogic would be the regular replacement, but he’s only just recovered from injury.

We certainly have our injury and suspension problems heading into the resumption of domestic action. But it could be these concerns that gives Shved the break he needs at Parkhead.

And it’s worth him taking it too. If he fails to do so, it may not be too long before he’s pushed to the bottom of the pecking order once again.
